School holidays plus warm weather plus long daylight hours plus the university year cycle. Every crew is booked out three weeks in advance, and premium pricing applies to Fridays, Saturdays, and the last working day of each month.

The UK's driest, warmest window with the fewest 30°C+ heatwave days (July and August lorries with no aircon are miserable for both crew and possessions). September is the sweet spot: warm, dry, kids back at school, and the market busy but not chaotic.
Best for families with school-age children: mid-July or late August
Six-week summer holiday gives children time to settle before term. Register at the new school in June to secure September places. Moving during term time is legally fine but disruptive.
Days of the week that save you money
- Tuesday and Wednesday: cheapest, calmest, and best crew availability.
- Thursday: reliable, slightly busier.
- Friday: most popular day. 20% premium common.
- Saturday: premium day. Solicitors don't complete on Saturdays anyway — usually pointless.
- Sunday: most crews don't work. If they do, expect a 30% surcharge.
- Bank holidays: no completions, so no moves. Move the working day before or after.

When you exchange, ask your solicitor whether the seller has any flexibility on completion date. Shifting from Friday 30th May to Tuesday 3rd June can save £150–£300 on a typical three-bed removal and gives you a calmer lorry crew who aren't running two jobs that day.
